Hi, I’m Callum.
I grew up in a woodshop with twelve chickens and a house that always needed fixing. Since graduating with honors from SFSU's Industrial Design program, I’ve had the privilege of helping small startups, national organizations, and global health brands build products that serve their customers’ needs.
Now I’m returning to my tinkering roots - designing interactive experiences that reveal the miraculous forces of the natural world.
Experience
Exhibit Designer
Freelance
I’m currently designing the PirateLab - a collection of interactive experiments, activities, and demonstrations exploring the science that powered the Golden Age of Piracy. Previously, I supported Bay Area interpretive design firm Leslie Stone Associates in generating signage and orientation concepts for the Yuba River and Yosemite Valley Visitor Center.
Product Designer
Becton Dickinson x Scanwell
I originally joined Scanwell to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. After being acquired by Becton Dickinson, I led product design for several digital and physical offerings, including the company’s first and only consumer product; the at-home COVID-19 test. My responsibilities ranged from UX/UI design, IxD, information architecture and supporting UX research to physical product design and prototyping, video production, and animation.
In my time at BD, I filed two patent applications, which are both currently under review.
Volunteer UX / UI Designer
+ Project Manager
Various Organizations
In the past several years, I helped drive UX / UI for my local Code for America brigade, managed go-to-market for organizations such as World Without COVID, a registry for active clinical trials, and 100kPledge, a platform for economic empowerment, as well as fundraising initiatives for several Bay Area nonprofits.
Brand Positioning Lead
VSC
I led business development at a start-up PR agency – working with technical founders to translate esoteric scientific concepts into digestible messaging, graphics, and campaigns. I also helped overhaul the company’s website and client acquisition process.
Web + Industrial Designer
Freelance
I've helped clients ranging from biotechnology startups to educational gaming companies bring their products to life with fresh websites and original visual assets.
